Story
The second phase of our Sweetfields Masterplan for Build-to Rent (BTR) developer and operator PLATFORM_, Phase 2 will deliver 541 new homes across three towers.
Signalling PLATFORM_’s long-term investment in the region, the Sweetfields development – set across 1.3 million sq ft – will help to accelerate the regeneration of the South Bank area by delivering a mixed-use quarter on a brownfield site which has been vacant since 2009.
David Bailey, Partner | DLG ArchitectsThe whole team are thrilled to reach this significant milestone; not only the culmination of a huge amount of work from the whole design team, Phase 2 of Sweetfields is going to make a really positive addition to Leeds – something we can all be proud of.
EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN
Embodying PLATFORM_’s ethos of excellence in design, the proposals create over 31,000sqm of build-to-rent accommodation ranging in height from 8 to 23 storeys. Residential Block 2 features a light brick and sage green material palette with a strong masonry plinth, whilst Residential Tower 4 is clad in white brick and silk grey aluminium cladding. The architecture of this phase is designed to be visually distinctive and differentiated from the first Phase of the development, which is detailed in a more commonly found Leeds- red brick, whilst complementing the palette to ensure cohesion within the masterplan. Residential Tower 4 acts as the gatepost of the site drawing visitors through the public realm corridor.
The new homes will be complemented by a mix of resident amenities including gyms, lounges, private dining suites, co-working areas and landscaped roof terraces, reflecting PLATFORM_’s approach to delivering exceptional design-led spaces. Extensive public realm and high-quality soft landscaping combine to create a welcoming social environment and embody a focus on resident health and wellbeing – a key area of DLG Architects’ design philosophy.
The Sweetfields development is energy conscious and sustainably designed. It will combine renewable energy sources, smart in-home technologies and energy efficient heating and lighting systems, creating a low carbon development that supports the city’s ambition to become net zero carbon by 2030. This includes the use of air source heat pumps, sustainable urban drainage, green roofs and solar panels across the development.
Matt Wilcock, Development Director | PLATFORM_Sweetfields Phase Two is testament to our positive collaboration with our design team, Leeds City Council and our stakeholders which have helped shape our proposals with high quality public realm and a development that responds to the requirements of the city and enriches existing neighbourhoods, helping to future-proof housing options and aid economic growth.
