Our project to create a world-class spa destination and extension to the Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge, is underway.

The iconic boutique hotel is expanding to reflect its unique context and situation at the tip of Lake Windermere. Our proposals will provide an exceptional new spa suite, 30 new bedrooms and guest parking within the landscaped grounds of the hotel. The new spa facility will include a hydrotherapy pool, thermal suites, relaxation areas and treatment rooms alongside a café serving cake, champagne and other refreshments. The scheme reflects industry and consumer demand for high-quality “destination” accommodation, such as those we’ve previously delivered at Rudding Park, Harrogate and are currently constructing at the new Malmaison, central York.

Following £7m investment by CBRE Global Investors, the project is now progressing with specialist contractors Medlock now on site. It is anticpated the development will provide 20 new jobs, in addition to the planned launch of an apprenticeship programme.

Sarah Gibbs, managing director of The Swan, said: “Whilst it’s unfortunate we must shut while we endure another national lockdown, we’re staying positive and productive by breaking ground on our new development. We’ve got a great team on board and are really excited to get the project underway, we already can’t wait to reveal all in 2021.  It’s been a tough year for all but we’re really delighted to be investing back into the economy.

“Being able to provide work in these times of uncertainty is something are doing with great pleasure.”

The project is being led within DLG by Partner Andrew Gardner, Associate Neil Swift and Joel Cowling.
