This unusual re-use and refurbishment of a group of listed market buildings in the aptly Fashion street in London has been developed into the new home for the renowned Italian school of fashion the Instituto Marangoni
The existing buildings, with their distinctive “Moorish” detailing, have been stripped back to reveal the original iron trusses and new roof lights have been introduced flooding the interiors with natural light.
Internally the finishes are generally sandblasted original brickwork and a the new exposed concrete frame
The building is split into four main zones and an access and escape strategy was developed to allow the use of a single staircase in the centre of the buildings and a glass Clad steel lift to further express the industrial character
