Whether dead or alive trees are an important resource that we at DLG aim to work with whenever possible. As architects we are an important catalyst in promoting their use in both states and can potentially make a substantial contribution to minimising global warming and the future impact of climate change.

Having been at DLG for over 17 years, I have been fortunate to have worked on numerous heritage projects including a number of conversions of listed Georgian houses into high quality modern office space and luxury apartments. Here are some of the issues that we regularly encounter and how we successfully overcome them.

Earlier this month the Church of England’s Building review group launched a report on how best to care and use their buildings for the common good giving a set of recommendations. This spawned some interesting articles in the Guardian by Simon Jenkins and Giles Fraser expanding on the potential future uses of Church buildings in England.

Attendance at the BCSC’s annual shopping Centre conference has been part of my calendar for as long as I can remember. I am not certain if it was 1988 or 89 when I attended my first conference in Brighton, with the then Senior Partner Tony Walker, but I do know I have not missed one since!
