DLG’s involvement with Tower Ramparts Shopping centre goes back some 20 years, initially working with the previous owners to simplify some of the 80’s interiors. Although located in the heart of Ipswich’s historic centre and connecting the town’s main bus station to one of the main shopping streets, twenty years on the centre was failing to attract enough permanent and recognisable tenants made worse by the departure of the anchor department store which had been the focus of the centre.

Having been at DLG for over 17 years, I have been fortunate to have worked on numerous heritage projects including a number of conversions of listed Georgian houses into high quality modern office space and luxury apartments. Earlier this month the Church of England’s Building review group launched a report on how best to care and use their buildings for the common good giving a set of recommendations. This spawned some interesting articles in the Guardian by Simon Jenkins and Giles Fraser expanding on the potential future uses of Church buildings in England.
